How did you all like the Summer Series GuestMixes? I hope as much as we did. I also hope you did not miss any, because we had some truly top stuff from some of our favorite DJ/Producers. Billy Bogus, Satin Jackets, The Beat Broker, Sare Havlicek, and Casual Encounters...Not a bad line up if you ask me. Well, the Summer season is over and along with it the Summer Series as well. Don’t get me wrong though, by no means is the party finished. Keeping it going for us, as we return to our regular GuestMix installments, is our hometown homie, Ed The Metaphysical.
Let’s get meta for a bit and talk about the man. There’s plenty of time to get physical on the dance floor thereafter. One of D.C.’s notable selectors, The Metaphysical has had his hands in (or all over) the music scene for quite a few years now. Production, engineering, disco jockeying; Ed has busy busy hands indeed. He has worked with such groups as MATHPANDA, Flex Matthews, Ardamus, to name a few; all the while holding down a number residencies throughout the District. You can find him regularly doing work at 18th Street Lounge, Rock & Roll Hotel, Love, Red Palace, Looking Glass Lounge, and Science Club spinning all that good stuff a proper dance party needs.
Meta is a versatile DJ, and dabbles in a range of genres. But it’s Disco and House, and their and sub-genre flavors, that are his bread-and-butter. This is evident in his work off the decks. Ed has a slew of productions and his extensive catalogue of edits and remixes is nothing short of works of wizardry. The Alchemist might be a better suited moniker, as he tends to transform oldies and rarities into Disco/House gold. Here’s a few of my favorites to get your familiar:

Groove: Podcast - David August 07
It was already mentioned how much fun DPC had this past
weekend, but an integral part of the story needs to be addressed.
If you would please draw your attention to Figure 1, "DPC Presents: A Long Ass Walk to the Lincoln," you will see that a substantially large group of us decided to go to the Lincoln Memorial at 6:45 in the morning. *Spoiler Alert: It's a bad idea when everyone is in the clothes they were wearing the night before. Good idea? Playing soccer the entire way to good ol' Abe Lincoln.
And now that I have shown you that my drawing skills could rival any 8 year old, I can wow you with my musical taste ;)
Friday's mix comes to us from 20 year old Berlin-native, DJ/Producer David August of Diynamic Music. This is a record label that is on my radar and I am patiently waiting the day when I see a showcase of theirs.

The Babel Orchestra - Golden Mix
I don’t like being told what to do normally, but when the vocal sample on Shep’n Willy’s “Hefty Done Me Right” emphatically told me to “DANCE,” there was no argument to be had.
That’s what we do here at DPC - partly, anyway. Just as much as we enjoy getting our groove on, we like to party, and then there’s the ever so -please turn off your sarcasm detectors- eloquent chronicling.
Speaking of, let’s talk about this weekend:

D.C. has a double dipping of disco dance parties. Friday’s “Disco in the Dark” was the second installment of Mr. Bonkerz’ monthly get-downery at The BlackCat. This time, we have a special serving of the Connecticut-based trio, Business Casual Disco (Coltrane, Norrin and Skeeba). Saturday will be the BLISSful return of Chi-town trio, Orchard Lounge, with support, yet again, from the Bonk Man - Can we say, “Bonkz’s been a busy boy”? - That'll be going down at DPC’s whiskey dispensary, U Street Music Hall.
*The amount of alliteration in the previous paragraph was not intended
Alright, back to today’s musical offering (I’ll keep things minimal for those of us who haven’t recovered from Thursday night Happy Hour just yet):

Billy Bogus & George Skanderbeg (B2B) - Bottega Elettrica Mix
Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone involved in making last weekend’s “Disco in the Dark” a success. The dance party featured myself, DPC’s resident DJ, Remote Ctrl, and DPC friends Mr. Bonkerz and Sneakers in the Dryer:

It was one hell of a night of dance, disco, and debauchery. Thank you D.C. You all made it such a special evening; we just provided the soundtrack!
Now back to business.
Niccolò is founder of Pizzico records, a DJ, and producer with an album, Night Movie, released through Nang, and numerous other releases under his belt. His style is a quirky mixture of weird movie soundtrack, dusty Disco, and New Wave synthy
goodness.
The mix is a B2B set from his resident night called “Bottega Elettrica”. You’ll hear the contrasting yet complementary track selection as the mix progresses. The familiar, and appreciated, Maxxi SoundSystem remix of Parallel Dance Ensemble’s “Shopping Cart” is a sexy energizing opener. We follow Kid Who into the spacey unknown with his take on Andrew Clarke’s “We Built This House”. The fourth track, starting at around 19 mins, is a tip of the tongue jam that I can’t name at the moment Pete Herbert's "Bells of Hackney" is one of my favorites. You have to love its lovely swinging bassline groove, funky guitar riff, and spaced out melody. It's an expansive mix in terms of the tracks. They are appropriately given time to play out and breathe, while being well selected and mixed. We’re taken on an aural trip through high energy disco weirdness and deep & sexy House. I gotta say, I really enjoyed the genre line-crossing Disco and House stuff in this mix. It’s all dance party approved; else, we wouldn’t insist you listen...immediately!

DPC Guestmix Series 07: Cooper Saver
We would like to interrupt your regularly scheduled program right now. Sorry we're not sorry, but you're probably:
- Lounging around at home
- Recovering from a post-holiday hangover (sugar, food, or alcohol induced - pick your poison, and if you say all three - well, that's just impressive)
- Trying to avoid family activities - so you're locking yourself in your room to read your fave blog, The Dance Party Chronicles
- All of the above.
And we'd like to ask you to turn your attention to the following important announcement. Because this announcement is more important than relaxation, recovery, other dance parties, family, or all of the above.
We have the final guestmix of 2011 for you. Right now. Today. Here. So read up, and listen.
You totally read that right. We've got another guest mix for you - just in time to close out 2011 - which proved to be an amazing year in music.
Every album reviewed, every concert attended where hipsters DID NOT DANCE (too many), every shot taken, every beer chugged, and every mix "chronicled" - it's tough to encompass all of that in one mix.

The mix starts out with a summer-time favorite edit, "Juicy Fruit" by Dr. Dru & Adana Twins - the track makes me want to open up my imaginary sunroof and blare my stereo for strangers and pedestrians to enjoy - complete with dance moves. And after a quick glance at the tracklist, I'm sure all of you looked at Goldroom's remix of "Mother Protect" and squealed like a little girl. Trust me, I did too. I am so freaking obsessed with the track it's not even funny, and the segue from Cooper's own edit into it was very nice (hint: 7'ish minute mark).

There's a little bit of everything packed into 64 minutes. From Rory Phillips' track at the 37 minute mark...Uh yea, hi, Rory Phillips, you make a mean remix, let's get married... I'm not creepy - to Runaway's take on Azari & III's deep house hit, "Hungry for the Power". Cooper Saver's mix has it all. Think of it as a nice reminder of all that 2011 had to offer - and more! #doublewinning
So! If you want to catch up on Cooper's upcoming gigs, new mixes, or stalk him, you should probably "like" him on Facebook, follow him on Twitter, or get his updates via SoundCloud. I also should add, he does a lot of freelancing and has had a chance to interview tons of DPC favorites - I highly recommend checking out his website, for some awesome pictures/interviews/information!
And because we had so much fun interviewing Drop Out Orchestra about a month ago, we decided to ask Cooper a few questions. Please check out the interview below. Completely uncensored (ohhh!) and borderline hilarious (Uhmm, dubstep shouldn't be requested at shows, people!)
DPC: 2011 has been a great year of albums, mixes, concerts and singles. What's your favorite album of 2011, mix, concert and single?
CS:
Favorite album = Holy Ghost! self titled.
Favorite mix = I had Poolside's "Day" mix on repeat all summer, so I'll go with that.
Favorite concert = Cut Copy at Coachella was amazing, but seeing Midnight Magic a few months ago ruled...hard to say!
Favorite single = That would be a battle between Azari & III "Manic" vs Crazy P "Open For Service."
DPC: You contribute a ton to the LA-based blog, uhohdisco.com, how did your passion for sharing DDPs with others start? And when did you decide to start to delve into your own music?
DPC: You contribute a ton to the LA-based blog, uhohdisco.com, how did your passion for sharing DDPs with others start? And when did you decide to start to delve into your own music?
CS: It just happened on its own a long time ago. When I was in school my friends would always ask me if I had any new music to recommend, so I figured why not start a blog. You won't be able to find that blog anymore, but I ended up getting into it and posting for other sites up to the present time. UhOhDisco has been a lot of fun and I've been fortunate enough to have the flexibility to post whatever I like; Stephen is the man. I didn't really understand the whole DJ thing when I was blogging 5 years ago, but it happened quickly and sort of took over. It seemed like a natural progression at the time and it became a lot more than just a hobby. The next step is definitely spending more time on finishing my own music.
DPC: While DJing, what's the funniest "request" you've had?
CS: Oh this is a good one. Over the summer I had two young guys come up to the booth and get a little overly aggressive toward me because I ignored their extremely strong desire for some dubstep, and the bouncer had to get them away for my safety haha. I don't DJ with a computer, so I couldn't have pleased them even if I wanted to. But that was more of a threat than a request! Luckily I don't get that too often.
DPC: If you find yourself in the middle of a huge dance party, what are you holding in your hand (drink wise)? And what's your signature dance move?
DPC: If you find yourself in the middle of a huge dance party, what are you holding in your hand (drink wise)? And what's your signature dance move?
CS: I could lie and say something very classy, but we all know I'm taking whatever those complimentary drink tickets are going to get me. As far as signature dance move, I think it's too early into the game to claim one. If one thing's for sure, I'll be embarrassing myself on dance floors all over the world forever trying to accomplish this.

DJ BA - Laser-Eyed Buck Mix
Hey Peoples
It’s Friday!...Also it’s awkward office Christmas/Holiday Partyseason (so don’t forget your flask...and to avoid talking to your boss...oh, and hooking up with co-workers #OfficeXmasPartyProTips)…
Well it’s a little chilly in the Northeast, but our friend, DJ BA aka Mr. Anderson, by way of San Francisco, has brought the Disco/Househeat our way. This “Holiday Power Hour” mix, titled after the elusive “Laser-EyedBuck”, is a bourbon and eggnog fueled dance party (tacky X-Mas sweateroptional). There’s raunchy Disco edits galore with bits of sultry House. Mr.Anderson’s mixing is slick and the track selection is Disco-fun yet subtlysexy. So whether it’s a rowdy dance party you’re looking for, or a sip finewhiskey next to the fireplace type of night, you should be well covered. I think the last track, Creative Source’s” Good Lovin Is Good Livin” (Daz-I-Kue Bloodfire Edit), sums that vibe up nicely. So, what are you waiting for? Get this one going and get your Friday dance party started proper!
And if my ramblings don't do it for you...Mr. Anderson describes his mix as:
And if my ramblings don't do it for you...Mr. Anderson describes his mix as:

Mirror People - Burning Down the House Mixtape
This past week I came up with this brilliant idea to end my running hiatus of two months and take a quick jaunt around my neighborhood to get cardio disco dance parties back into my life. I've missed them, and I think the break was necessary (for me) but holy crap... it wasn't fun. Like at all. If you're anything like me (thank god you probably aren't), then you think about the randomest crap as you run. You're welcome in advance for the lovely insight into my thoughts:
And now that you've had a peek into my thoughts (I can't promise you this won't happen again), I'm sharing said mix with you because it saved me from wanting to keel over and not finish my run. It was so good, in fact, that I took it to the gym yesterday after work to get my treadmill on.
This cardio disco party comes to you from Mirror People, and within the first few minutes you'll realize why you'll want to grab your pair of shoes and run, too! Like now. We've featured a mix on Mirror People before, and much like the mix for The Ambitious C, this one is a dance party from start to finish.
At the 14 minute mark, the Drop Out Orchestra edit of "Foreign Language" drops, and while it has definitely been played. a. heck. of. a. lot. I will never, ever get sick of the track. Something about those deep bass lines with Jess Higgs' heavenly voice... I die. Around this point was when my legs wanted to crap out since I hadn't done any real running in about 2 months, so when "Off My Mind" by Moon Boots came on (I believe it was the Rogue Vogue remix), I started smiling like a complete idiot, completely forgetting that this run was painful.
This is when I also managed to pass about 10 other people walking and/or running, and immediately sped up because I didn't want to look slow. And now that you're actively judging me for trying to "impress" complete strangers while running, I will digress into the second half of the mix which picked up the tempo and went into some house. I kind of spaced out for the latter half (probably a good thing) but to be honest, that's the type of music I love listening to while I'm working out - things that are good, keep me going, and that I don't have to think about, "ughh, maybe I should try and change this music.."
So you should totally put this mix on now because it has just the right amount of dance to it to get you going whether you're sitting at your desk working, or need a mix to take out with you while you work out.

"Holy crap, I am really out of shape. I wonder... I wonder if I go a little. bit. slower. the light will turn red so I HAVE to stop at that nice crosswalk up there on that busy road."

Mid-Day Disco Dance Party, Round IX
The whirlwind of events have shifted my body into recovery mode. This past weekend was full of dance parties and good times. I was ecstatic when my friend, Meghan (a total food nerd as well and bakes/cooks delicious things!!), came to visit. On Saturday we met up with all our friends to see Metro Area, which to be completely honest was fun... but not as fun as I had expected. Maybe I just really hyped it up in my head... not sure, but it was a dance party in itself, it just took awhile to warm up - if that makes any sense.
Rashad was not in attendance so when Morgan Geist's mix of "Tonight" came on (I think... or an equally epic song) I took out my phone to take a quick 30-second video. I totally know you're not supposed to take videos, but I really wanted to send the video to Rashad, so I did it anyway.
Needless to say I was reprimanded and playing dumb (which I obviously couldn't do, I'm there like every week) was not an option. I erased the video, apologized and all was OK - I guess? Then I felt really bad and proceeded to find my friend who works there and apologize before one of the security guards talked about the stupid drunk Asian girl running around attempting to take videos. Moral of the story? If you want to take a video, or take pictures, don't.
On Sunday morning, we went (along with our friend Whitney) to the DC Convention Center for The Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show where went to a 1-hour cooking demo for Giada DeLaurentis (*swoon* she's gorgeous!). It was awesome and we walked around eating tons of cheese (so.much.cheese.), baked goods, and other delicious things. If that doesn't sound like fun, I don't know what does. Maybe almost buying a $9.00 packet of habanero sugar is the definition of fun. It was foodie heaven, and I loved. every. second. of. it.
Which is exactly why it's taken me a week to muster up any sort of post. Well, that and because I suck. I've been attending shows, cooking, baking, and well, stepping away from le blog for some decompressing time. It's hard to write if you have nothing to say (duh), and to completely sugar coat something, make myself write, or write about something that doesn't interest me isn't something I want to do. And let's be real: you'd totally see through the facade as well, think I'm a total fake, and then we'd lose like all 6 of our readers at DPC.
So yea. About this mid-day dance party. It's by the German Trio, Space Ranger... I love their December mix (I have the mix on a cd that is constantly playing in my car because my iPod thing doesn't work in it - so sometimes you'll come into my car and my iPhone is playing music instead of the stereo... #ghettocarproblems) and House of Disco Guestmix. You should probably listen to the HOD Guestmix after this because you'll probably be on a Space Ranger binge. There's also a nice written up interview to go along with the mix that's super informational. #winning
Rashad has a secret crush on them, and maybe I do too. And!!!! Now that you've eaten lunch and want to take a nap, but can't - I suggest you put on some headphones and get lost in this disco-house podcast by Space Ranger.

Edit Murphy..Someone to watch out for!
Summer is over...but the barrage of hot mixes is not!
The C90's October Chart Mix brought some serious heat! There was a track in particular, Edit Murphy's "Mercy" that caught me off guard. It's a Deep Disco take on Marvin Gaye's "Mercy, Mercy Me", and it is done exceptionally well. I absolutely love the groovin' bassline, the funky twang of the guitar riff, the faint vocal harmonies, and the glitch effect added to the beat here and there, reminding you that this song has been contemporized. I had to rewind the mix a little to hear it again! Well after a bit of Soundcloud sleuthing, I came across Edit Murphy's page. Lucky for us, Edit Murphy has free EP available for download, entitled MoTown Edits Vol. 1:
Along with " Mercy", there is a super sexy House'd down take on Bill Wither's "Lovely Day" and another sexy RnB/Disco edit (not sure on the sample...you?)
"I Need More Please" was the feeling I was left with:
Well, Edit's got a Deep Disco/House mix (their first!) to hold us over until their upcoming release by way of Smoke N'Mirrors. One of tracks, "Brooklyn Lights" is included, so keep your ears open. This mix is deep and sexy, with massage oil slick mixing ;) Hopefully, this stuff is an indication of what's to come! Enjoy!

Micah Vellian - Sound of Everything Mix Vol.1
Here's something a little different for you all from D.C.'s Micah Vellian. As the title suggests, this mix has a little of everything in it. Indie dance, Nu/Disco, and House tracks are mixed and chosen well. It's a very dynamic mix with shifts in tempo and vibe. I think it all comes together nicely and shows Vellian's versatility. It's like he's saying, "I'm going to make you dance, by any means necessary". Check out the tracklist there's some familiar stuff there. The Torro Torro remix of Jeremy Glenn's "New Life" was a new and very welcomed track for me. Oh, and Mario Basanov's "Lonely Days" made me rewind the mix so I could re-jam-out to it. It's all good stuff from start to finish!

Another hot August mix! Cosmonauts August Top 10 Mix
Bringing this month's string of incredibly hot mixes to a close (unless someone else decides to drop another one on us!), The Cosmonauts just released their monthly Top Ten mix. Per usual, it brings the summer heat. No tracklist available at moment, but they usually release it a few days after the mix is uploaded. They're quite good at collecting recent tracks that aren't in every other mix out, but are dance floor bangers nonetheless. There's a few I ID'd, but this one has me a bit stumped. So, I'm definitely antsy to see what they've put together to make this great mix. Expect a variety of NuDisco and Disco-House, with that lovely synthy touch and driving bass lines I currently can't get enough of. Enjoy!
