DPC Guestmix Series 13: Disco Tech

The 13th installment of our DPC Guestmix Series comes today from Disco Tech.  Disco Tech (not to be confused with Discotech) is a producer/DJ/turntablist from Stockholm, Sweden.  As his name might imply, he specializes in all things Disco as well as Funk, Soul, and Hip Hop.  He has made a name for himself  by taking old-school tracks in these genres, and editing them to have more nu-school, dancier vibe.

This year, Disco Tech launched his own label, called DiscoDat and has been busy pumping out releases.  In April, he released his own First Pressure EP which consisted of 6 re-works of some classic songs (You can buy it here).  This EP was followed by two volumes of his Funky Heroes releases which all feature Disco Tech edits of some excellent Soul, Funk, and Disco tracks.  If you enjoy that old-school vibe, then you have to check these out (Vol 1, Vol 2).  Volume 3 is in the works and should be out soon.  DiscoDat has also recently released two compilation albums, featuring various artists, including Disco Tech.  These releases are called Tales From the City (Vol 1, Vol 2).  On top of all of this, Disco Tech also has three volumes of DJ friendly edits packs that he has done that are all available on his website.

Disco Tech - April Beatdown Mix

The District has had its fair share of disco dance parties (DDPs) this past month and I would be lying if I said it hasn't been awesomely exhausting.

Friday night was nothing short of amazing as Beautiful Swimmers, Tiger & Woods, and Tim Sweeney had the U Street Music Hall moving until 3am. It was one of those times where I stood there danced in awe of how much talent the duo of Tiger & Woods showcased from the start to finish of their set. I was in dance party heaven as they dropped track after track, causing me to exclaim, "YES, I LOVE THIS TRACK!" while spinning in circles and jumping up and down.

To say the least, this month April has been a beat down for this DPC crew member in the form of dance parties, whiskey and debauchery.

It's Monday now, and I have a hard time listening to rowdy dance music when I'm hungover or tired;  so Disco Tech's April Beatdown Mix could not come at a better time. To keep things to the point: it's chock full of soulful tracks that had my head nodding in approval from start to finish. Around 5 and a half minutes in, Sleazy Beats recordings slowmo track, "Women Don't Want to Love Me", by Modsleep, kicked in, and later transitions beautifully into the  LTJ's rework, "Light".

I've come to the conclusion that LTJ Xperience has some of the best edits/reworks out there in the DDP world, as evidenced by the "Happiness" track that drops at the 9 minute mark. The bassline at 25 minutes in is reminiscent of a track I've heard in a David August mix. Same with the the track at 34 minutes in (if anyone can ID - please let me know) which is almost too funky for me to handle! At the 37:15 minutes, "Slow Days" by Sunner Soul transitions in and I found myself wishing my headphones had better sounding  bass to do it justice. The track was just released on April 17th on Vintage Music...so heads up, DJ friends - I'm going to pester one of you until I hear it played out somewhere ;).

So this is the part where I shut up and tell you to listen to the dang mix because you need this in your life. Here's to a new week, more dance parties on the horizon, and not forgetting to close my tab out this weekend!

Disco Tech - Rock The Disco

Oh, Hello there fellow Dance-aholics

If you’re like me, come Friday, I tend to have little Discoon the brain. Better yet, it’s in my soouuulll(*Don Cornelius Voice*). Seriously though, my addiction symptoms usually start with somefoot tapping, at around 108 BPM. Next comes the head nodding. And finally, the anxiety setsin because some mix is giving me the insatiable desire to get up and boogie, BUT it’s only noon: #DancePartyProblems

We need to start a research foundation or something…

Alright, well let’s get into what you came here for. The mix that’s currently triggering my Dance Party addiction symptoms today comes by way of DiscoTech. Fresh from his decks, this off-the-cuff mix is entitled Rock the Disco. Expect some classics, expect some stuff you may not be familiar but probably should be considered classic, and prep your ears for some super solid edits of both the former. The man is an expert technician when it comes to editing. So be absolutely sure to check out his work, and follow him on SoundCloud to stay up to date with his seemingly endless stream of sweet disco edits. No doubt in my mind that you all will thoroughly enjoy this mix; there’s funk, soul, and disco heat to kick off your weekend on a proper note…kick, snare,hi hat, or funky guitar lick(whatever works for you!).

No tracklist...so just focus on gettin' your groove on!
