Cinnamon Chasers- Love In Sunset (April 2012 DJ Mix)

It's finally Friday and another work week is coming to a close.  After a dance party in Brooklyn last Saturday that redefined the term epic, it was quite a long week.  I finally got the chance to see one of my favorite DJ duos, Flight Facilities.  Honestly, I went into the show with high expectations, which can sometime lead to disappointment.  However, these two dudes from down under completely blew me away.  They certainly didn't hold anything back at Brooklyn Bowl (which has an exquisite 3 ft disco ball above the dance floor).  A group of my friends and I got the chance to meet the curly haired Hugo from FF and Jess (who sings Foreign Languages) and kick it with them at the after party.  Its always nice to get the chance to meet artists you like and even nicer when they turn out to be really cool, down to Earth people.

Although this work week has been long, there have been plenty of new mixes released that helped make it more enjoyable.  The plethora of mixes sometime makes it tricky to pick one to post about. Being Friday, I wanted to pick a mix that got you all in the mood to head out on the town and show off some of the new dance moves you've been working on.  The mix below is "Love in Sunset," Cinnamon Chasers' April 2012 DJ mix.  Cinnamon Chasers is the nu-disco project of British producer Russ Davies.  Russ Davies is also the artist behind Abakus. Cinnamon Chasers took off in 2010 with the song and video Luv Deluxe.  Its a great song and a really well done video, check it out:

This mix clocks in at just over a half hour, but features quality tracks from front to back.  From the first notes of the first track, you can tell this mix is going to be solid.  It goes from rowdy up-tempo dance beats to slowed down smooth grooves and back again.  Whether you're getting ready to go out or just trying to make it through Friday, this mix should get you feeling the weekend has arrived.  Enjoy!

Flight Facilities - Paris Social Club (70's DJ Set)

So last night I had another fail in the kitchen (sort of). You see, it's someone's birthday today (hint: 1/3 of DPC, and his name rhymes with fraud) and it's also Thanksgiving week. This means I'm canoodling with my beloved Kitchen Aid stand mixer more so than usual - swooooon. Which in turn means I do things like want to smush cookies with marshmallows and hope for the best.

Let's just be thankful that I decided to experiment with half of the cookies. And while we're on the topic of thankful, I'm thankful Holy Ghost! and Eli Escobar will be in town tomorrow night at the 9:30 Club (!!!). Let's hope there aren't tons of hipsters there that I can compare to inanimate objects.

And let's just hope I'm not too hungover on Thursday morning to bake a salted caramel cheesecake for my family. Because that has THANKSGIVING written all. over. it. But you know what doesn't have Thanksgiving written all over it? Ribs.

Uh, yea. Due to some changes in family plans, Zena (hi, mom!) will be in town for Thanksgiving. After getting calls from both her and my oldest brother, I learned that we were having ribs for Thanksgiving and forgoing the "traditional turkey". Fine by me! Turkey is just a bigger chicken that makes me sleepy. Don't even get me started on a turducken my family got a few years ago. Holy. Crap. I feel bad for whoever stuffed each bird into the bird. Awkward.

Anyway. So there's that. And now... there's this:

Flight Facilities' Paris Social Club 70s DJ Set from a show about a year ago. If there's one mix that I will play for my not-so-much-disco-loving-friends, it's this one. So many great tracks on here that everyone recognizes and loves, and edited by Flight Facilities. Holy beautiful. Maybe you're familiar with this set? If you are, let me reintroduce you; because the second, third, fourth, errr... 20th time you listen to this, you fall in love... ALL.OVER.AGAIN.

SERIOUSLY!

Look! There's also a nice download link to the individual edits, here. Mmm, edits.

Finally!...Flight Facilities 37,000 ft!

I'm going to apologize now for the use flight puns in this post. As Becca "explained", The Twelves tore it up at U Street Music Hall in D.C. last night...And I empathize with her morning-after sentiments. So excuse me if my writing lacks in creativity today.

Love those disco nights....

Moving on!

So how long does it take to climb to 37,000 ft? If you're flying with FF Airlines, apparently about a year! It's been that long since their last installment, the Mid-Flight Mixtape. Off the back of their HOT new single, "Foreign Language", this mix is an overdue but welcome dance party starter. It's filled with absolute dance floor bangers and remixes, especially Drop Orchestra's interpretation of "Foreign Language"! There's plenty of other goodies...from Aeroplane, Holy Ghost!, Cut Copy, Penguin Prison, and I'm always happy to hear Metronomy's "The Bay" in a mix. Sit back and let this 24 track disco flight cruise....(couldn't resist). Enjoy!

[Insert Witty Blog Post Title]....New Chart Mix from the C90's!

Hey (Dance) Party People!

Here's fresh chart mix from London's The C90's. The duo's monthly installments never disappoint. I took quick look at the tracklist and couldn't wait to dive dancing feet first into it. Hot off the disco presses, Oliver's "I Need You" and the Flight Facilities' "Foreign Language" hint at the quality of tracks throughout. From the go, we're treated with some funky synthy disco. This is my kind of mix (see: "I'm a sucker for synth")! A bit after the midway point, put your moon boots on because it gets a little spacey! Dense synth bass lines, lots of beeps and boops. Look out for the editing machine, Rayko's "Whip It". Clocking in at 1hr and 20min, this a super solid mix for sure. Slick transitions, playful FX use, and a great assortment of songs; whether you're looking just to jam out or find some new tracks, this one will leave you satiated (if not, you can always hit play it again!). Enjoy!
