Thursday Thoughts

Last week I was in San Antonio for work. It was fun*. I wore funny, large sombreros and ate my fill of tacos, guacamole and margaritas. I also bought the cookbook pictured below. It was a very well-spent $10.00.

I'm obsessed with this track. It totally speaks to me. I can't wait for the EP to come out because I'm going to ask my friends to play.this.all.the.time. (sorry, friends - you know who you are..) It's the frosting to my cupcake and just that good.

My friend sent me this website. I proceeded to laugh in my cube by myself for 20 minutes, and then made the bunny with a coffee filter device on its head my Facebook profile picture. Who comes up with these things, and if you are said person, can we please best friends forever?!

This is my happy song of February. FINA Records just dropped the EP, "Modern Heat" this past week, and it's pretty bomb. This track, "Crushed Ice", makes me want a tropical drink and summer, stat! Super groovy and super smooth! #winning

Did you know that Occupy DC is still going on? Yea. It's about a 2-minute walk from my office, too. Last week I bought a painting from an Occupyer who proceeded to tell me that my $5.00 donation was not actually the "usual donation" and most people gave $10.00. Whatever, dude. Can I please have my owl painting for my roommate? And no, I don't want it dedicated to her, but thanks. And now they've put up "The Tent of Dreams" and my co-workers and I had to see what went on under there. Spoiler alert: nothing really. I think the "important occupyer's" get a coveted tent spot in said "Tent of Dreams".

I've mentioned this track on Facebook before, but can we please listen to this again? Because...THIS TRACK IS SO GOOD IT MAKES ME WANT TO START A DANCE PARTY RIGHT NOW. Care to join me?

And can we please be obsessed with this mix, too? Because I certainly am. Been loving on Adana Twins and Doctor Dru lately, so you definitely should as well.

*by fun I mean working very long days, and drowning my stress and lack of sleep in drinks and food.

Thursday Thoughts...

On a Wednesday night.

If you're reading this I'm out and about in DC seeing this guy - AHHHH (!!!!) and probably taking a whiskey shot or two to the face. Right. About. NOW.

I'm obsessed with this track. Like...drop my whiskey ginger on the ground and run away because I'm so embarrassed but need to keep dancing obsessed. I hope he plays it. Let's hope I'm not holding a drink in my hand.

Mark E - RnB Drunkie by future classic

I violated another chicken this past weekend with a Natty Boh can. My friend fashioned a holder for said chicken with three forks and he stood up just fine. I can't say the same about the can. Did a million "TWSS" just come to your mind, too? #michaelscottrules

Last week I made cranberry bread. It was so good I had to take an artistic picture of it to show everyone. That's butter on that spoon right there. Yea, just a hunk of butter - hanging out. And if you're wondering, yea... I did eat the butter on the spoon after I took the picture. #pleasestillbemyfriend

Rashad is having his DEBUT at the 9:30 Club Backbar this weekend with our friend, Mr. Bonkerz. I'm 99.9% sure that shit is going to get wild. EVERYONE (yes, everyone) will be there, and there will be cookies. This is SO my kind of dance party. If you're in town, what are you waiting for (?!?) Hop on that gravy train!

If I don't stop typing, I'll have to go to Mark E. unshowered and in my workout clothes. Which sounds like a really good idea, but I don't want to be the smelly girl. Not that I would know what that feels like or anything. So, I leave you with this little diddy. Pretend like you're there with me, too! +1 if you have a shot whilst listening.

Thursday Thoughts

One of these days I will buy an umbrella. I'm starting to realize that standing under a tree in my neighborhood while waiting for a bus is okay, but walking into work wet is not okay. Maybe I should get a cupcake top-hat to protect my hair from the rain:

Need a Halloween costume idea? Head over to our Facebook page to see some DPC readers' costumes. Last year I was Cheer Bear and attended a concert outdoors so it kept me nice and warm. But you know what else kept me nice and warm? Running away from everyone trying to get pictures of me and/or attempting to bear hug me since I was in a pink sweatsuit with a rainbow on it.

The winner of best costume in the comments gets a cool prize!!! And by cool prize I mean I'll send you things like cookies or cupcakes, and a book that I really like (about music) and other random crap. You should probably comment.

Do you need a track to be obsessed with? It was featured in The Magician's Magic Tape 16 that was released this week, and I've literally played it about 30 times this week. In fact, I am obsessed with almost every track that Shook has remixed now.

Fallulah - I Lay My Head (Shook Remix) by Shook (Official)

DPC is headed to Chromeo and Breakbot to celerage Halloween this Saturday, and we love this mini mix. Super dancey and awesome. If you're on the fence to head to a concert and Breakbot is playing - this should do the trick. Expect a full review from one of us after the weekend.

Breakbot - Dance On Glass Mix 03 by user55848

Speaking of Breakbot, I heard this song in Old Navy the other week, and was pleasantly surprised. It is hands down my "happy song" for when I need a little pick me up, it's also featured in the opening track of Aeroplane's January 2010 mix. OBSESSED!

Thursday Thoughts

This morning my roommate drove me to the metro (Thank You!!) It was pretty awesome, until I realized after I got on the metro and was riding for 10 minutes that I got on the wrong train.
#fail #spacecadet #stupidshitido

Baking is slowly consuming my life. I made pumpkin donuts the other night. Donuts are a million times better than cupcakes. Give me baked confections with holes in them. Now.

Speaking of baking, my friends have pumpkin brownies. I told them I would barter these for said brownies. Looks like I will be having a dance party in the kitchen tonight. I'm not complaining.

It's a rainy, dreary day in DC. Rainy, dreary days in DC call for extra awesome DDPs. And now I'm obsessed with this track!

02 - Kamp! - Cairo (Moullinex Remix) by Discotexas

This particular DDP is from the Canadian blog, The Ambitious C, and part of their mixtape series. I love their mixtape series, and my favorite Drop Out Orchestra mix happens to be from this site - and I've mentioned it before! Mirror People (Rui Maia) is a DJ/Producer from Portugal, and was kind of enough to share his mix via Soundcloud. He has said he has been influenced by such labels as DFA and Italians Do it Better!, and thus Mirror People was born and his mixes and tracks show his love for disco-house oriented music. (source)

The mixtape includes many familiar tracks, and I approve of all them. While they are familiar, I don't think these are 'played out' yet, and haven't been on too many mixes that are circulating currently. I love Rocco Raimundo's re-interpretation of "Foreign Language". That song will never, ever get old to me. LOVE 27'ish minutes in, too. DDP (!!!)

So yea, have a listen to this mix and have a great Thursday because tomorrow's Friday. And Friday means it's basically the weekend. And there are some dance parties to be had this weekend.

Thursday Thoughts

Last night started like this:

I came home to this for **swoon** this.

I wish I had gone to this. Instead I had a date with this:

And maybe (don't judge me) with this.

Then I baked this while listening to this**, which left me with this:

10 minutes and 30 seconds into said Drop Out Orchestra Mix made me do this:

Now I'm in my cube, drinking this, but I'd rather have this.

And this Thursday morning I'm actually listening to this:

Thursday Thoughts

Because of this. . . Or maybe this,

I feel like this:

So now I want to eat this. Or maybe this.

But really, I'm eating this.

I don't have a post cause (remember?!) I was celebrating this. So maybe you should go read this.

I'm excited for this. And especially for this. Oh yea, and this.

And now you should listen to this:
