Artist Spotlight/Ticket Giveaway: Tiger & Woods

Good morning DPC readers!  I'm excited to announce another DPC Ticket Giveaway!  This time we will be giving away a pair of tickets for 4/20-Blisspop: TIGER & WOODS (Live), Tim Sweeney, Beautiful Swimmers at U Street Music Hall.  We've been looking forward to this show for quite some time and it promises to be an unforgettable night in the District.  Details for entering the contest are at the end of the post.

Tiger & Woods are "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma." They say that their names are Larry Tiger and David Woods; they must be fans of golf and "Curb Your Enthusiasm."  T&W first emerged onto the scene in 2009 with two vinyl EP's, Hole in One and Caddy Shag, released unofficially on the Editainment Record Label.

After the jump...

The Editainment label is just as mysterious as Tiger & Woods.  The releases and their sleeves are hand stamped.  The only information given is the artist, track names, label, and a small graphic. Only two other artists have been released on the Editainment label and they are just as ambiguous as Tiger and Woods.  Cleo & Patra released On the Nile EP in 2010.  It is widely believed that Cleo & Patra is just another clever name that Tiger & Woods used to throw people off even more.  However no one is sure that this is true, as it has never been confirmed.  The plot thickened in 2011 when Editainment released Pop & Eye's debut EP Out to Punch. Recently, Pop & Eye has said that he produces alone, while Tiger & Woods have claimed that it is not them.  There is still speculation that it may or may not be Larry Tiger or David Woods or both.  The only thing that is known for sure is that each Editainment release has been superb. Pop & Eye recently released his (or her or their) second EP Toil for Olive Oyl which contains an incredible edit of  George Benson's song "Give Me the Night" called Give Me a Fight.

Anyway, back to Tiger & Woods.  Their music definitely can't be pigeon holed into a specific genre as they have a sound that is distinctly their own.  They use drum loops, samples, and re-edit old songs to create a sort of cosmic elctro-funk space-disco house.  Tiger and Woods released their first full length album, Through the Green, in 2011 on the German label, Running Back.  It contained several tracks from their previous EPs and several new ones as well.  One of my favorite tracks on the album is "Gin Nation."  Its an incredible edit of Imagination's "Music And Lights."  At the end of 2011, they released a free album called Wiki & Leaks that featured 15 T&W Lab Files (Download it here).  Along with their originals, Tiger & Woods have also done countless remixes and edits (some released, some not).  Check out their remix of Tensake's track "Need Your Lovin" below:

Below are a couple of mixes from Tiger and Woods that you can stream (or download) on Soundcloud.  Don't expect a tracklist, from a couple of artists who won't even reveal their real identities.  The first one is a mix that they put together for Resident Adviser in 2010.  The other is a mix they did for host Tim Sweeney's Beats in Space.  Who, speaking of, is also on the bill for the 4/20 show at U-Hall; as well as D.C.'s own The Beautiful Swimmers (who've also been on BiS; check it out here).  I couldn't be more pumped for this Friday!  I hope to see you there and don't forget to enter the ticket giveaway (Entry details below).
