Zimmer - Desert Drive | April Tape

Friday, Friday, Friday.  Has it really been 7 days already?  Maybe it was the 40 hours in 2 days that I worked at the beginning of the week that threw off my perception of time, or maybe it was my level of excitement for this weekend that made the time fly by.  Either way, I'm not complaining.  The weekend has once again arrived and it feels so good.  For anyone in the DC area, come out and celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Mr. Bonkerz' monthly party at 9:30 Club Back Bar, Shenaniganz. I'm sure there will be plenty of cookies and whiskey to go around.

Fresh off of the Disco Texas release of "Horizontal Disco" (Remixes), Zimmer dropped another great mixtape this week.  First of all, Horizontal Disco was an incredible EP.  The alarm clock on my phone still wakes me up every morning with the original version of "Cruisin'" (that's literally a horizontal disco start to your day).  This remix album has taken some great Nu-Disco tracks, and made them, well, "nu-er".  My favorite song on this album has to be the Xinobi remix of "Slave to Your Heart (featuring Jeremy Glenn)".  The song peaks after a great build. Then, just when you think its about to drop, the beat cuts out and the chorus comes in, leading to an energetic, piano driven, booty shakin', dance party explosion.  This track is also featured in the mix below.  There are some really great remixes on this album and I highly recommend checking them out right here:

If you haven't been paying attention the last few months, Zimmer has been on fire with his mix tapes.  His "Living Large Mixtape" from March was one of my favorites released this year.  One of the things I really enjoy about his mixes is that he packs around 20 great tracks into an hour.  He picks the best section of each track and sometimes the transitions are so smooth you forget that the track changed.  His April mixtape, "Desert Drive", is no different.  It starts off with Lou Teti's remix of "Cruisin" which is a great track to kick off any road trip or joy ride.  The fifth track, "Triscuits" by Monitor 66, seems to be popping up on a bunch of mixes recently and will be on an upcoming House of Disco EP.  There are so many great tracks on this mix that I could go on for days about them and the artists featured on it are essentially a Whose Who of Nu-Disco Kings.   Sit back, relax, and whether you are horizontal, vertical, or in a seated position, get you weekend started with some Horizontal Disco.

Monday Morning Wake Up

Hey DPer's

We hope you had a great dance filled weekend. We had a blast at IDfest last Friday and are busy collecting ourselves and prepping some follow up stuff for you all. In the meantime, I've got a quickie for you. Aeroplane takes a Nu-Disco go at Cassius' "The Sound of Violence". And I must say he does it well. Mind the vocals and lyrics (Is it me or there some strong sexual innuendo in there). The soulful voice and a infectious hook ride a synth bassline backed cheerful steal drum. It's another summertime dance floor heater. Enjoy folks!

Cassius - The Sound Of Violence (Aeroplane Remix) by Coco De Disco

Addendum!:
Came across another NuDisco remix I felt like sharing. This time from Aeroplane's former partner in crime, The Magician. The track, "Another Sky", is by Scenic. It's featured on the recently released EP from label Future Classic (who are red hot this summer, check out their Soundcloud page). The track was already solid, but The Magician makes it dance floor worthy with a touch of the usual NuDisco accents. The man is more like a wizard when it comes to this stuff. Look out for his (more or less) monthly mixes via Soundcloud.

The Swiss - Double or Nothing (Louis La Rouche Remix

Still anxious for the upcoming new release by The Swiss? I am! If the teaser of EP and video of "Double or Nothing", weren't enough to hold you over...Louis La Rouche has put together a nice remix for us. So until September 23 comes around, take this one for a spin. Enjoy!

Kitsune Tabloid Mix: The Twelves!!

Hope you all had a great weekend. Here’s something special to kick off the week!
The Twelves have an unrivaled and uncanny ability to transform a song of any genre into downright pants off dance off track. Point and case, from their instant classic Essential Mix, Radiohead’s “Reckoner”; a bleak yet beautiful affair is turned into serious get-down-and-party tune. Their live sets are a blast! It’s “…a unique blend of lives keyboards, drum machines, mash-ups and remixing on the fly…Always trying to improvise as much as possible”. (FB)

Those of us in the DC Metro area will be lucky enough to catch the Rio based duo at the (unofficial) DPC headquarters, U Street Music Hall, August 17 (See our “Event” page). So come have a dance with us!

The Twelves were asked and obliged to do a mix for Kitsune Tabloid. This mix is actually a two parter put together. The first being a romp through a pop, indie, disco, and funk tracks (showing off their insta-dance-party Midas touch I mentioned before). The second half is a straight-up DJ mix. The whole thing will be released by Kitsune Tabloid August 28, but you can enjoy the stream now below!

EDIT: The original Soundcloud link had to be removed. Apparently it was posted in violation of international copyright law. We never hosted the mix; just shared a link to someone else's Soundcloud stream. It will be on sale through Kitsune Tabloid, August 29. In the meantime:

Lou Teti Knows the Way...

Lou Teti, has a new EP primed and ready to drop on August 15. “I Know the Way” is the title track and is accompanied by remixes from a few “Tigers on a Leash” label mates. Teti has been kind enough to let us preview it (in full) on his Soundcloud. His low tempo disco original is great (especially the opening guitar riff and dirty synth drop!). But I am Toomy Disco fan, and his up-tempo remix brings the NuDisco heat! Cassian provides a good interpretation of the track, and as a bonus it’s available as a free download. Last, but certainly not least, Generatto offers a untzy tape dub version. All are good, and I am looking forward to grabbing this release when it drops. Enjoy!

New Remix from the Magician

My absolute favorite DJ as of late, The Magician, works his ma-...wait, that's too easy....*ahem* ...has a go at Wolf Gang's indie-pop number "Stay and Defend". Taking a different approach than usual, he adds a smile inducing tropical flavor to the already lighthearted track. The track is driven by a disco beat and a steel drum provides a cheerful Caribbean melody, perfect for that summer-time vibe. This one is different. It's cheerful and fun, and I like that. Have a listen!

What do you all think??

(Almost forgot: Watch out for a "Spotlight" post featuring The Magician soon!)

I'm a sucker for synth...

The 22 year old Argentinian, Toomy Disco, adds some disco flavor to the electro-pop band, Tesla Boy's 80's synth-pop track "Thinking of You". I dare you to resist moving when the dance inducing synth bass drops. Full of 80's New Wave cheese and backed by airy synth harmonies, the vocals keep things sexy and effervescent (a la Holy Ghost!). This one will be popping up in DJ mixes to come. Give it a go..and dance a little (it's good for you!).

Toomy Disco's tracks remixes are always on point. Take a browse through his Soundcloud page and you will come across dancey gems like his remix of Bottin & Rodion's "Shooting Star" (a favorite of my mine).
