First Listen: Mr. Bonkerz Cosmic Re-Edit of "Urgent" by Foreigner

Happy Holidays DPCers!  We have a special gift for you all today courtesy of DPC Resident Disco DJ, Mr. Bonkerz!  He put together an incredible cosmic edit of Foreigner's 80's rock classic, "Urgent."  I am a huge fan of the way our cookie loving friend dissected the original song and reassembled it into a spacey dance track complete with italo style synthesizer.  You urgently need to check this one out, and get down!

DPC Guestmix Series 13: Disco Tech

The 13th installment of our DPC Guestmix Series comes today from Disco Tech.  Disco Tech (not to be confused with Discotech) is a producer/DJ/turntablist from Stockholm, Sweden.  As his name might imply, he specializes in all things Disco as well as Funk, Soul, and Hip Hop.  He has made a name for himself  by taking old-school tracks in these genres, and editing them to have more nu-school, dancier vibe.

This year, Disco Tech launched his own label, called DiscoDat and has been busy pumping out releases.  In April, he released his own First Pressure EP which consisted of 6 re-works of some classic songs (You can buy it here).  This EP was followed by two volumes of his Funky Heroes releases which all feature Disco Tech edits of some excellent Soul, Funk, and Disco tracks.  If you enjoy that old-school vibe, then you have to check these out (Vol 1, Vol 2).  Volume 3 is in the works and should be out soon.  DiscoDat has also recently released two compilation albums, featuring various artists, including Disco Tech.  These releases are called Tales From the City (Vol 1, Vol 2).  On top of all of this, Disco Tech also has three volumes of DJ friendly edits packs that he has done that are all available on his website.

The promo:

Also, for our N.Y. readers, if you’re into boats, disco, and good times, we highly suggest you get on board this floating dance party. The event features not only DPC’s newest contributor and resident, Mr. Bonkerz, but our good friends Business Casual Disco, and the fantastic disco reviving collective Wylys & the New York Hustler Ensemble and more (Tickets & Info).

The Goods:
More good news. Apart from the fact that it’s Friday, which is great news in and of itself, to mark the release of their album, The Edits, our homies Drop Out Orchestra bestowed upon DPC a track to share with all you disco loving dance party fiends. It’s a remix of Sterling Void & Paris Brightlege’s “It’s All Right.” The lovely vocals let you know just so, throughout the track and the signature Drop Out rolling basslines we all love are there from start. The track also has funky sort of Disco-House beat with an undeniable touch Chicago House flavoring, i.e. lush piano chords and vogue inducing snares. You may have heard it on their June Mix Session or Mighty Mouse’s June Mix (both below).

Though “All Right” is on the album, it’s takes a different form and is called “Pounds Sterling.” I’ll explain: The tracks on The Edits, despite its title, are more than that. “The Re-imaginings” might be a better suited title. Using four to five musicians, Drop Out Orchestra actually recreate the songs while using only a few bits of the original piece. It’s done to near perfection and the DOO twist tops the cake. The selection tracks is just great: Sade, Talking Heads, Robyn, oh and even Rick Astley (Yup, Drop Out Orchestra just “Rickrolled” dancefloors across the globe). So grab your copy of the album distributed digitally, exclusively through Juno.

Jam out to these dance party approved mixes featuring “All Right.” and have yourself a damn good weekend!

Disco Tech - Rock The Disco

Oh, Hello there fellow Dance-aholics

If you’re like me, come Friday, I tend to have little Discoon the brain. Better yet, it’s in my soouuulll(*Don Cornelius Voice*). Seriously though, my addiction symptoms usually start with somefoot tapping, at around 108 BPM. Next comes the head nodding. And finally, the anxiety setsin because some mix is giving me the insatiable desire to get up and boogie, BUT it’s only noon: #DancePartyProblems

We need to start a research foundation or something…

Alright, well let’s get into what you came here for. The mix that’s currently triggering my Dance Party addiction symptoms today comes by way of DiscoTech. Fresh from his decks, this off-the-cuff mix is entitled Rock the Disco. Expect some classics, expect some stuff you may not be familiar but probably should be considered classic, and prep your ears for some super solid edits of both the former. The man is an expert technician when it comes to editing. So be absolutely sure to check out his work, and follow him on SoundCloud to stay up to date with his seemingly endless stream of sweet disco edits. No doubt in my mind that you all will thoroughly enjoy this mix; there’s funk, soul, and disco heat to kick off your weekend on a proper note…kick, snare,hi hat, or funky guitar lick(whatever works for you!).

No tracklist...so just focus on gettin' your groove on!
