David August - Diynamic Neon Promo Mix

Surprise! Diynamic being featured again. You guys better get used to it, because I don’t think they’re going anywhere. Hailing from Berlin, David August is another example of Diynamic’s knack for scooping up young, insanely talented producers and giving them a platform to shine from. It’s always fun for me (and I hope for ya’ll) to listen to a mix that truly expresses an artist’s musical voice and character. The inside of David August’s head is a stormy place, and this mix is unequivocally David August. Unlike the majority of promo mixes, this one is borderline meditative – August has no problem slowing down the tempo and letting his tracks fully breathe. There’s a haunting, almost remorseful, edge to a good deal of his selections. Even some of the more upbeat tracks are underpinned with a melancholy bassline or vocal track. One gets the sense that every single one was picked with a purpose in mind, and August’s ability to convey that through his mixing is a testament to the youngster’s skill. Draw the blinds for this one.

The Round Up, Vol. 1

Looking for a new mix to get you through the day? Need some inspiration to get up and get moving this weekend? More importantly, need more Dance Party? Starting this week, DPC will aim to highlight and disseminate some of our favorite mixtapes, podcasts, and EP releases from across the wide world of EDM, including our own backyard. Your personal curator for this intergalactic journey is new staff writer Sam Warren, a NY-to-D.C. transplant who listens to far too much of this stuff to be healthy. Each week, Sam will break down a handful of mixes in the hope that, somehow, somewhere, a booty will be shaken due to his efforts.

State of the Dancefloor and Chris Hingher's Pumpdiscomix#3

Today we want to keep you dance partiers up-to-date with the DPC happenings and share some exciting news (and a mix, of course!). We hope you enjoyed our second Summer Series GuestMix, by Satin Jackets, posted early this week. Judging by the pageviews, it’s quickly becoming one of our most popular! Look out for another exciting next installment toward the end of the month.

Speaking of things to look forward to, if you were unable to make it to Movement Festival (DEMF) this past weekend, we’ve got your back. Next week we’ll be providing some post-fest coverage. One half the DPC crew journeyed to the Motor City and back; risking life, limb, and sobriety to not only dance on your behalf, but to bring back a first hand account of their experience to share with us all. They’ve recouped and recovered and have been tirelessly piecing the weekend together. So stay tuned in next week for that.

Kid Color LIVE at Smart Bar (4/13/2012)

First and foremost: HUGE shout out of to Mr. Bonkerz, Business Casual Disco, and Orchard Lounge for providing D.C. with some very fine dance parties this weekend. Oh, and we can't forget the readers we were able to meet. DPC had an amazing time dancing and partying our asses off with you all.

The weekend is gone, and it’s back to reality. That doesn't mean the fun stops completely though.  The Windy City native, Kyle “Kid Color” Woods has got a little something for today’s disco dance party. It’s a live mix recorded at SmartBar where he currently holds a residency. -The DPC crew may need to take a road trip out there, as SmartBar is also home to a few of our favorite selectors like Orchard Lounge and Kate Simko- The set was recorded earlier this month and is a meeting of Disco for lovers and partiers alike. The first half of the mix is rowderier with a bit of sex appeal sprinkled about. The Only Children - “Richard Morris” to a Revenge rework of Marvin Gaye's “Heavy Love Affair” segment  is just great in it's selection and mixing.

Cinnamon Chasers- Love In Sunset (April 2012 DJ Mix)

It's finally Friday and another work week is coming to a close.  After a dance party in Brooklyn last Saturday that redefined the term epic, it was quite a long week.  I finally got the chance to see one of my favorite DJ duos, Flight Facilities.  Honestly, I went into the show with high expectations, which can sometime lead to disappointment.  However, these two dudes from down under completely blew me away.  They certainly didn't hold anything back at Brooklyn Bowl (which has an exquisite 3 ft disco ball above the dance floor).  A group of my friends and I got the chance to meet the curly haired Hugo from FF and Jess (who sings Foreign Languages) and kick it with them at the after party.  Its always nice to get the chance to meet artists you like and even nicer when they turn out to be really cool, down to Earth people.

Although this work week has been long, there have been plenty of new mixes released that helped make it more enjoyable.  The plethora of mixes sometime makes it tricky to pick one to post about. Being Friday, I wanted to pick a mix that got you all in the mood to head out on the town and show off some of the new dance moves you've been working on.  The mix below is "Love in Sunset," Cinnamon Chasers' April 2012 DJ mix.  Cinnamon Chasers is the nu-disco project of British producer Russ Davies.  Russ Davies is also the artist behind Abakus. Cinnamon Chasers took off in 2010 with the song and video Luv Deluxe.  Its a great song and a really well done video, check it out:



This mix clocks in at just over a half hour, but features quality tracks from front to back.  From the first notes of the first track, you can tell this mix is going to be solid.  It goes from rowdy up-tempo dance beats to slowed down smooth grooves and back again.  Whether you're getting ready to go out or just trying to make it through Friday, this mix should get you feeling the weekend has arrived.  Enjoy!
