NSFW - April MIx

A lot of our readers have expressed to us that the music we share gets them through and provides the soundtrack to their work day. Coincidentally, that’s how this whole thing got started for us at DPC. It was an email chain between friends who shared music during the workday while they eagerly awaited the next dance party Somehow, through some whiskey-graced inspiration, it became a blog. The purpose of which being to spread and induce dance parties; whether you’re at home dancing in the mirror, out living it up with your crew, and most importantly, in your cubicle.

Well, what am I waiting for? Nothing really; just need to do a little more“chronicling” before making you want to dance. Go ahead and hit play if you want, just promise you’ll keep reading...I’m feeling wordy today.

Deal?

After the jump...

I always feel a little pressure when I have a Friday post. I try to post something that will capture that end of the week; “40oz to Freedom”; “damn, I can’t wait to switch from business attire to my favorite jeans and tee with complimenting Chuck Taylors combination” - type of vibe. Well, I think I nailed it with today’s pick. It’s by DJ/Producer NSFW. And despite the moniker, based on the criteria mentioned above, his April Mix is actually quite SFW.

The mix starts a bit moody, and aren’t we all first thing in the morning; especially for the Thursday night -“I’ll just have one drink, that turns to seven, happy hour”- people. Trust me, I'm not judging.
The opener is a bounced up take on Nick Cave and Bad Seed’s “Red Right Hand”. A clean transition takes to us to “Strange” by the Adana Twins. The selection is is deep with a house bounce to it. But segment is made that much better by the way the Jim Morrison/Doors sample compliments the vocals of the previous track.

This mix starts to change gears as we get into Oliver Cheatham’s “I Like To Party” (Kolombo rework). Just before the 23rd minute we get the “All Systems: Go” from Houston and are blasted into the space via NSFW & Kraver’s “Strarstruck”. It's yet another great track, but let me take a moment to talk about the transitions in this mix:

They are all super slick! /end Moment

Going into “Starstruck” is particularly good one, and the segue following it is deftly done as well. It takes us into a funky Disco-House track, fully loaded with beat driving hi-hats, and a haunting recurring synth that reminds you that the party has indeed gone off-world.

The rest of mix is a blend of slightly deep and weird, but fun tracks of House and Disco varieties. So if you’re sitting at your desk right now, desperately in wait of the weekend to get started, I must insist this mix is suitable for work and very much Friday appropriate. What may not be, however, is the spontaneous dance party that may break out between you and your neighboring co workers.

If possible, save it for this evening and join DPC at U Street Music Hall, as our friends over at Blisspop host Tiger & Woods, Tim Sweeney, and Beautiful Swimmers! There's still a little time left for your chance to win a pair of tickets. Details here! We'll announce the winner a little after noon today.
